Tracer GasLeak Detection

When water testing fails or systems cannot be pressurized, tracer gas detection finds what other methods miss. Safe, inert gases reveal even the smallest leaks in roofs, membranes, and buried pipes.

Technology

Tracer Gas Options

Hydrogen/Nitrogen Mix (5%/95%)
Safe, non-flammable gas mixture that is lighter than air and easily detected at very low concentrations.

Best for:

  • Underground pipes
  • Heating systems
  • Pool plumbing
  • Irrigation systems
Helium
Inert gas with extremely small molecules that can escape through the tiniest openings.

Best for:

  • Waterproof membranes
  • Building envelopes
  • Refrigeration systems
  • Critical seals
Process

How Tracer Gas Detection Works

1

System Preparation

The system is isolated and drained if necessary. Access points are identified for gas introduction and the area is prepared for detection.

2

Gas Introduction

Safe tracer gas is introduced into the system or beneath the membrane at low pressure. The gas fills the void and begins escaping at leak points.

3

Detection Survey

Highly sensitive detectors scan the surface above, measuring gas concentrations. Peak readings indicate leak locations.

4

Marking & Documentation

Leak locations are precisely marked on the surface and documented with photographs and measurements for repair guidance.

Advantages

Why Tracer Gas?

Finds Smallest Leaks
Tracer gas molecules are smaller than water, so they escape where water cannot yet penetrate.
Completely Safe
All gases used are non-toxic, non-flammable, and environmentally friendly.
Works When Water Can't
Ideal for empty systems, intermittent leaks, or when the leak path is too small for water testing.
Non-Pressurized Systems
Perfect for flat roofs, balconies, and waterproof membranes that can't be pressure tested.
Applications

Common Applications

Flat roof membrane leaks
Balcony waterproofing failures
Swimming pool and spa leaks
Radiant heating systems
Underfloor heating
Buried water lines
Fire suppression systems
Refrigeration lines
Gas line testing
Shower pan failures
